The Habitat Conservation Team exists to exercise principle responsibility for the Colorado Parks and Wildlife Habitat Conservation programs for wildlife species and the integration of those programs with CPW’s game and species conservation programs through strategic, tactical, and operational planning and implementation activities for all species as well as species-specific habitat management activities. Furthermore, the Habitat Conservation Team exercises principle responsibility for conservation planning and active habitat management implementation for priority wildlife species. This is accomplished by the formation of partnerships, cooperative ventures, and other collaborative relationships with diverse governmental and non-governmental interests, both within and outside Colorado Parks and Wildlife. Governmental interests include local, state of Colorado, other state, and federal agencies. Non-governmental interests include private landowners as individuals or organizations, and economic, conservation, environmental, and sportsmen’s organizations.
This position is responsible for coordinating the planning, design, delivery, and monitoring of strategic habitat conservation efforts for Pinion Juniper/Desert Shrub habitat types in Colorado. The position coordinates the development of goals and objectives with internal staff and external conservation partners to ensure outcome-based objectives based upon the best available scientific data, information, and models. Duties include identifying priority species, identifying limiting habitat factors, and compiling and applying models describing population-habitat relationships. The position coordinates the development and design of on-the-ground strategies for achieving objectives by developing species habitat decision support tools; designating priority areas; and formulating habitat objectives to achieve population objectives. The position oversees the implementation of active habitat conservation actions to achieve defined habitat and population goals and objectives, collaborates with external partners, identifies and secures external funding, and provides project management and administration. The position serves as the CPW Habitat Conservation Team representative for Pinion Juniper/Desert Shrub habitat types and coordinates with staff to develop and implement the habitat component of habitat management plans. The position acts as an informal work lead for habitat biologist implementing active habitat management. The position assists with the development and implementation of monitoring and research efforts to evaluate assumptions made in population-habitat models, decision support tools, habitat responses to conservation actions, population responses to conservation actions, and progress toward habitat and population objectives.
Develops and adheres to Habitat Conservation planning standards for use by cost center management in preparation of annual work and budget plans to meet program objectives. Guides, reviews, evaluates and analyzes Habitat Conservation Team work plans to determine progress toward goals and objectives. Recommends resource reallocations where warranted to meeting priority program objectives. Develops purchasing agreements and manages budgets necessary to acquire materials and personal services for forest restoration and data management. Prepares required reports for annual/periodic budget and planning updates. May also be assigned to special habitat initiatives and projects as needed to achieve agency goals.

Minimum Qualifications
Seven (7) years of relevant experience in forestry, wildlife ecology, wildlife biology, wildlife research, natural resource management or an occupation related to the work assigned

A combination of related education in forestry, biology wildlife ecology, wildlife biology, wildlife management, zoology, ecology, natural resource management orand/or relevant experience in an occupation related to the work assigned equal to seven (7) years
