Job Description:
This position can be on location in Corydon, IA, or remote with plant visits as possible and ncessary, not to interfere with classes.
Job Summary:
- Creates, organizes, writes, and edits product manuals. Creates or obtains illustrations, photographs, or other graphic components to illustrate products and materials.
- Works and communicates with Engineers and Designers in the development and updates to product manuals and assumes responsibility for their accuracy and completion.
Primary Responsibilities and Duties:
- Creates and writes service, operator and maintenance manuals using SolidWorks, Composer and other MS products.
- Creates, edits and converts documents, models and 2D prints/views and 3D models to be used in manuals.
- Focuses on raising the level of usability and professionalism of Shivvers manuals.
- Updates old manuals.
- Helps to continue to create standards and templates to use across the board for improving efficiency and professionalism in all of our media.
- Proactively investigates and becomes familiar with our products and drives to have manuals completed before product launch.
- Establishes standards of documentation that are on the cutting edge.
- Pursues improving usability of manuals and reduces wording and numbering and focusses on imagery.
- Familiar with online manuals and videos and drives to create and accelerate Shivvers implementation of those.
- Works directly with Engineers and Designers in the development of these manuals and assumes the responsibility for their accuracy, completeness, and completion.
- Actively participates in continuous improvement activities.
- Follows safety rules and regulations when performing work assignments and maintains a clean and orderly work area.
- Travel to project sites to evaluate and fix product issues, when needed.
- May assist in other areas of engineering as desired.
Educational Requirements:
- Associate’s degree in a writing and/or technical field preferred or pursuing a degree.
- Previous SolidWorks and Composer training, required.
Skills/Experience Requirements:

- Experience and proficiency with SolidWorks and Composer.
- Experience with MS products.

- Ability to analyze complex electro/mechanical assemblies and be able to describe what is needed in a clear, concise document.
- Attention to detail. Strong critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to conceptualize and work from engineering sketches and 3D models.
- Strong electro-mechanical aptitude.
- Work effectively with limited direction as well as the ability to work in a team environment.
- Ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously to deliver results on time.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to stand for long periods of time.
- Ability to perform repetitive operations.
- Ability to lift up to 25 lbs frequently; occasionally lift and/or move up to 50lbs.
- Ability to perform repetitive motions such as bending, walking, reaching with hands, grasping, pushing, and pulling.
- Ability to wear PPE (personal protective equipment) as needed. Steel-toed shoes and safety glasses are required when working in the factory or testing areas.
Work Environment:
- Environment ranges from an office environment to a manufacturing shop environment, to a field application environment with various noise levels and temperatures ranging from hot to cold depending on seasons.
