The Child and Adult Care Food Program (CACFP) Branch is looking for a dynamic, energetic, and committed nutrition education professional to join the Nutrition Education, Training, and Support (NETS) Section. As a member of the Nutrition Education and Training Unit (NETU), the Nutrition Education Consultant (NEC) will act as a nutrition and health subject matter expert and project lead for the NETS Section and CACFP Branch. Under the direction of the NETS Section Nutrition Education Administrator, the NEC will provide leadership on state and federal nutrition policies relating to the CACFP and work with other dedicated professionals to develop, conduct, and evaluate child nutrition and food service curricula and instructional materials for centers, schools, afterschool programs, and community organizations. In addition, the NEC will monitor and oversee local assistance grants and contracts. This position requires up to 20 percent travel.This position is part of a team of NECs that provides leadership in the CACFP meal pattern standards and leads the development, implementation, and evaluation of nutrition education policy, curricula, instructional materials, and nutrition education and food service training programs for CACFP Operators that are in accordance with federal training and technical assistance (TA) requirements. The work includes managing contracts for statewide child nutrition education activities.
The NEC also provides statewide leadership in collaborative partnerships with other government and community organizations in developing strategies for improving the nutritional well-being of young children throughout California.
The NEC is responsible for developing, implementing, coordinating, and promoting nutrition education as an integrated component of the CACFP. This position serves as the subject matter expert for CACFP nutrition and food service policies, and federal and state mandates.
Daily responsibilities include serving as the project manager for various nutrition, meal patterns, and mandatory statewide initiatives and training requirements. The NEC provides consultative services to CACFP Operators, and government and community organizations in developing, coordinating, implementing, and evaluating nutrition education programs. This NEC also analyzes legislation and prepares policy recommendations and reports.

Telework / Remote Work Information: This position may be eligible for hybrid telework under California Government Code Section 14200 for eligible applicants residing in California.
