Description

This position is responsible for the general administrative functions of the Adams County dental clinic. This clinic is part of the SIU Family and Community Medicine Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC). The principal responsibilities include budget preparation, human resource processes, facility management, short and long-term planning, program development and marketing, and support systems for teaching, research, and service functions. In addition, this position will have supervisory responsibilities of both dental and office staff.

  • Supervise dental and office staff (front desk, dental assistants, dental hygienist) and maintain by recruiting, selecting, orienting, and training employees using human resource processes.
  • Accomplish staff job results through coaching, evaluating, and disciplining.
  • Plans, monitors, and appraises employee job results.
  • Supervise the management of staff and dental schedules.
  • Manage time, payroll, and fringe benefits for faculty and staff assigned to the clinic.
  • Liaise with FQHC and SIU Human Resources to coordinate the hiring process for faculty, and civil service staff.
  • Engage in FQHC and SIU activities to support employee satisfaction within the clinic.
  • Prepare, design, and report effective budget models for the clinic to support the FQHC mission and vision.
  • Analyze and optimize clinic and dentist productivity to align with approved budget models.
  • Analyze and audit financial information to ensure operations are within budget.
  • Monitor and ensure accurate, up-to-date revenue contracts with vendors.
  • Advise alternative purchases (supply or contracts) to reduce clinic costs.
  • Manage the purchase of dental supplies, office supplies, and other equipment for the clinic.
  • Coordinate activities related to the facility to ensure a safe and efficient work environment.
  • Coordinate resources to support faculty and students research/scholarly activity.
  • Participate in marketing materials and techniques to expand practice and market share with patient satisfaction monitoring.
  • Coordinate strategic planning and facilitate continual quality improvement processes for the clinic.
  • Analyze data, prepare plans, and implement processes to support optimal financial and quality performance metrics.
  • Communicate and educate insurance and managed care plans to support the efficiency and viability of the clinic.
  • Recommend revisions in program activities, organizational relationships, lines of authority, division of work and other operational matters at the clinic.
  • Assist with the development of practice management experience for learners.
  • Assist with coordinating learner calendars for effective and efficient learning.
  • As requested, participate in FQHC and SIU work groups/committees.
  • Participate in community boards, etc., as requested.
  • Attend national meetings for professional development in areas of responsibility.

Qualifications

Level 2: Health Care Administrator II

CREDENTIALS TO BE VERIFIED BY PLACEMENT OFFICER
Any one or any combination, that equals 3 years (36 months) of the following types of preparation
  • -
    • college course work leading to a major in hospital administration, health administration, or business administration, or similar area of study
      • Associate Degree (60 semester hours) equals 1 year (12 months)
      • 90-semester hours equals 2 years (24 months)
      • Bachelor’s Degree (120 semester hours) equals 3 years (36 months)
      • OR
    • progressively more responsible experience that provided a knowledge of generally accepted principles, theories, and practices used in hospital administration, health administration, business administration or similar professional experience
  • One year (12 months) of hospital/medical center/health care administrative work experience



    OR


    College course work leading to a Master's Degree in hospital administration, health administration, business administration or similar area of study
  • Three years (36 months) of responsible administrative experience comparable to Health Care Administrator I in this series
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (KSAs)
