Job Description

The Director of Engineering and Security oversees the property's facilities maintenance function and is responsible for the operation, maintenance, service, and repair of equipment on-site. Directs and supervises the Maintenance staff along with the Security staff. Directs a team responsible for the maintenance of buildings and grounds, including renovations, expansions, and improvements. In addition to the Engineering Department, he/she is responsible for the overall property Safety and Security.

The Director of Engineering and Security will be an exciting part of the management team that works with ownership, management, and a world-known hospitality brand to rebrand and renovate The Warwick Rittenhouse Square into a world-class Philadelphia hotel once again. Using an online system to track, update, and complete ongoing hotel maintenance, the hotel's preventative maintenance, and work orders for the condominium units. The candidate will be expected to master, utilize, train others on, and require accountability for brand-required and owner-required tools such as GXP, RPM, Quore, etc. on a daily basis.

The hotel features 301 rooms and suites, 109 condominium units, over 17,000 square feet of flexible meeting and banquet space, and three restaurant tenants.

The Director of Engineering and Security must ensure a positive and productive work environment for the team, deliver exceptional service to our guests, uphold the standards of our brand, and meet the expectations of our owners with dedication and integrity.

A unique aspect of our hotel is the presence of 109 condominium units, which means the condominium owners are an extra special category of "long-term" permanent guests. They deserve and receive the utmost respect and sense of urgency whenever they have work orders to address. The Director of Engineering and Security must be particularly attentive to the needs of these owners, ensuring their satisfaction and maintaining a high level of service.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High School diploma or equivalent required.
  • At least 5 years of progressive experience in a hotel or a related field.
  • Management experience required.
  • Licensed in a trade preferred (plumbing, electrical, HVAC, carpentry, etc.).
  • Must have a valid driver's license for the applicable state.
  • Must be able to convey information and ideas clearly.
  • Must be able to evaluate and select among alternative courses of action quickly and accurately.
  • Must work well in stressful, high-pressure situations.
  • Must be effective in handling problems in the workplace, including anticipating, preventing, identifying, and solving problems as necessary.
  • Must have the ability to assimilate complex information, data, etc., from disparate sources and consider, adjust, or modify to meet the constraints of the particular need.
  • Must be effective at listening to, understanding, and clarifying the issues raised by co-workers and guests.
  • Must be able to work with and understand financial information and data, and basic arithmetic functions.
  • Must be able to work unsupervised.
  • Has extensive experience with the concepts and principles of one or more related fields or departments.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Develops and implements policies and procedures for receiving and prioritizing requests for maintenance.
  • Ensures repairs comply with internal policies and external regulations. Maintains records and documentation related to repairs made.
  • Leads and directs the work of other associates and has responsibility for personnel actions including hiring, performance management, and termination.
  • Identify building challenges and resolve them accordingly. Report and follow up on Ownership requirements.
  • Contributes to strategic planning, direction, and goal setting for the department or function in collaboration with senior management.
  • Establishes departmental policies, practices, and procedures that have a significant impact on the organization.
  • Lead departmental training & initiatives.
  • Maintain Inventory of supplies.
  • Approach all encounters with guests, employees, and condominium owners in an attentive, friendly, courteous, and service-oriented manner.
  • Maintain regular attendance in compliance with Blue Sky Hospitality Solutions standards, as required by scheduling which will vary according to the needs of the hotel.
  • Maintain high standards of personal appearance and grooming (which include wearing the proper uniform and name tag when working) personally as well as for every member of the Engineering and Security Teams.
  • Prepares and presents regular reporting (annually, quarterly, monthly, weekly, and sometimes daily) as needed for management, ownership, the brand, and government entities as required.
  • Collects, collates, analyzes, and presents bids for major ongoing repairs or purchases as well as capital expense or renovation repairs or purchases as needed.
  • Manage and implement scheduling, payroll documentation, benefits documentation, etc. for the Engineering and Security departments in line with all government, owner, management, brand, and collective bargaining agreement requirements as needed.
  • Lead, organize, and recruit management and associate members for the hotel's Safety and Security Committee per government, owner, management, and brand requirements.
  • Schedule needed Inspections for the property and work with Vendors accordingly.
  • Use proper phone, two-way radio, text etiquette at all times when communicating with other employees.
  • Perform any other duties as requested by management, ownership, or the brand.
