Duties
Under limited direction, processes and collects evidence at crime scenes; responds to crime scenes for video evidence recovery and may perform other duties as required or assigned.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Gathers and processes crime scenes including photographs, evidence collection, diagrams, and other pertinent information.
- Testifies in court regarding evidence collected, fingerprints identified, and other issues related to the court case.
- Prepares, analyzes and packages evidence.
- Utilizes chemicals, powders, and physical methods for detection and visualization of latent prints using proper safety equipment and procedures. Compares latent prints with a suspect's known inked prints to determine possible match.
- Enters and searches the computerized AFIS system for information.
- Obtains inked fingerprints from adults, juveniles, and applicants.
- Prepares detailed reports and documentation regarding crime scene analysis and evidence collection.
- Photographs suspects, scenes and events.
- Answers phones, maintains filing system, and performs other general office duties.
- Provides video editing, graphic designs, presentations, and public relations.
- Provides in-house processing of crime scene audio/visual evidence.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.

- Knowledge of the criminal mindset.
- Knowledge of the proper protocols in Criminology.
- Knowledge of local, state, and federal regulations affecting work.
- Knowledge of photographic equipment and other crime scene processes.
- Knowledge of crime scene investigation techniques.
- Knowledge of the principles and practices of crime scene photography & videography.
- Knowledge of the training methods and techniques used in crime scene audiovisual production.
- Knowledge of aerial photography, portraiture and macro/micro evidence photography.
- Skills in latent processing, evidence collection, photography and other crime scene activities.
- Skills in preparing detailed reports and diagrams.
- Skills in recovering, preserving, comparing and identifying latent prints.
- Skills in identifying crime scene evidence.
- Skills in operating standard office equipment including a personal computer and related software.
- Skills in the use and care of audio/visual and photographic equipment.
- Skills in the use of various programs for digital imaging and image enhancement including audio and video.
- Skills in the use of various computer programs for Microsoft, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Evidence.com, Internet, emails and downloads.
- Ability to distinguish the proper colors in photographs, videotapes, and computer printouts for graphic reproductions.
- Ability to multi-task, adapt to change, organize, coordinate, and implement numerous assignments.
- Ability to use Digital Cameras, UV/IR Cameras, and Computer Scanners.
- Ability to work in adverse conditions.
- Ability to work irregular hours including weekends, holidays, and extended hours in an emergency or disaster, short notice call-ins, or other situations influenced by workload or staffing difficulties.

Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED (education will be verified using the “Education Requirements” listed below) and two (2) years related experience, preferably in a law enforcement environment, or any equivalent combination of training and experience.
- A current and valid Florida driver’s license is required. For application purposes, a valid driver’s license from any state (equivalent to a State of Florida Class E) may be utilized; with the ability to obtain the State of Florida driver’s license within thirty (30) days from date of employment.
Alternate Requirements:
- Associate degree from an accredited college or university with a major in Crime Scene Investigation, Forensic Science or closely related field.
Education Requirements: To be considered valid (or verified) for position qualification purposes, and consistent with City Hiring Policy 4-5, a High School, GED or equivalent diploma, and all higher education degrees or certifications must have been issued by:
- a public education institution in the State of Florida or any State or Territory of the United States; or
- an institution accredited by an accrediting organization that is recognized by the Florida Department of Education or the U.S. Department of Education; or
- an institution that is accredited by an organization that is recognized by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA); or
- an institution whose degree or certification is accepted by institutions identified in either a), b), or c), above, for the purpose of admission to institutions identified in either a), b), or c) above.
- International degrees will be evaluated to determine if they satisfy qualification requirements.
