Primary duties include
  • Identify and leverage opportunities to share news and stories aligned with the strategic priorities of Student Affairs and Academic Support, contributing creative ideas during brainstorming sessions and collaborating with various departments to gather content.
  • Conduct interviews with students, faculty, and staff to gather personal stories for engaging content that supports the division’s objectives.
  • Create and edit content in various formats, including digital and print, ensuring accuracy and alignment with the division’s goals, and maintain a consistent brand image.
  • Develop content for media advisories, news releases, letters, speeches, and presentations tailored to specific audiences to effectively communicate information.
  • Monitor and analyze content performance, making data-driven adjustments for optimization, and stay updated on industry trends and best practices in content creation and marketing.
  • Assist with editing and proofreading team content, ensuring it is error-free, consistent, and adheres to style and branding guidelines.

Minimum Qualifications (Classified and Unclassified positions)
Bachelor’s degree and 2 or more years of experience, which may be substituted by equivalent combination of certification, training, education, and/or experience.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in public relations, communications, marketing, journalism or a related field and two years of related experience.
  • Proven experience in writing a variety of content types, including feature and news stories, letters, brochures, marketing emails, speeches and copy for social media, websites, advertisements, video and event scripts, signs and presentations.
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities
  • Excellent writing and editing skills with proficiency in adapting content for different audiences and platforms
  • Expertise in written and spoken English and AP Style
  • Creative and innovative thinking and planning skills with ability to consistently meet tight deadlines
  • Strong organizational and project management skills with ability to prioritize and manage multiple projects simultaneously
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with ability to work effectively with diverse stakeholders
  • Ability to work as a team player, demonstrate personal initiative and inspire colleagues
  • Ability to operate in a fast-paced environment with changing priorities
  • Familiarity with the higher education environment and an understanding of university culture is a plus
