Position Overview

The Office of Community Relations is seeking to hire a position to serve as Communications Coordinator. This position Implements policies for the management process of the Community Relations Office; coordinates, compiles, composes, researches, and gathers information for the writing and reporting of the Department of Human Services (DHS) newsletter relative to DHS; assists in managing, organizing, planning, executing, controlling, and evaluating the operation of the Downstate office; assists the Community Relations Deputy Director and Director in planning, arranging for, and executing press conferences, press and public events, including writing and disseminating press releases, fact sheets, and other publications with communications value; and serves as working supervisor.

 

Job Responsibilities

  1. Serves as Communications Coordinator.
  2. Assists in managing the downstate Office of Community Relations.
  3. Assists in the management of the Department of Human Services (DHS) OneNet and Department of Human Services (DHS) OneWeb page preparation and maintenance.
  4. Serves as working supervisor.
  5. Assists the Deputy Director and Director in planning, arranging for, and executing press conferences, press and public events, including writing and disseminating press releases, fact sheets, and other publications with communications value.
  6. Performs other duties as assigned or required which are reasonably within the scope of the duties enumerated above.

 

Minimum Qualifications

  1. Requires knowledge, skill and mental development equivalent to the completion of four (4) years of college with courses in journalism, English or public speaking.
  2. Requires two (2) years of supervisory experience OR three (3) years of professional experience in a public education and information program in a public or private agency.

 

Specialized Skills:

  1. Of the three (3) years of required experience, requires three (3) years of professional experience in a public or private agency focusing on communications or marketing.

Preferred Qualifications

  1. Three (3) years of professional experience utilizing journalistic principles and the methods and techniques of disseminating information to the public, media outlets, and internal audiences.
  2. Three (3) years of professional experience in a public or private agency focusing on communications or marketing.
  3. Three (3) years of professional experience researching, composing, and editing emails, newsletters, reports and other material for internal and external audiences.
  4. Three (3) years of professional experience working on programs that engage culturally and linguistically diverse communities.
  5. Three (3) years of professional experience planning, scheduling, and organizing informational and promotional presentations.
  6. Three (3) years of professional experience developing, editing, and managing web and social media content.
